According to
Philadelphia's Citypaper.net, City Councilwoman Donna Reed Miller has formed the Vicious Dog Task Force to seek solutions to the growing number of dog bites in the city.
Erik Hendricks, executive director of the Pennsylvania SPCA and task force member, is calling for a total ban on pit bulls in the city. Hendricks says there are 250,000 potentially dangerous dogs in the city.
The Citypaper.net article reports that all task force members, consisting of SPCA and U.S. Postal Service officials, pit bull rescue groups, dog owners and dog bite victims, agree that the main problem stems from irresponsible owners.
The task force, led by City Councilwoman Donna Reed Miller, is open to ideas and solutions that will enable the city to cope with its growing dog problem.
The task force meets again on Wednesday, August 2, Room 319 in City Hall at 1 p.m.
